Vanity awards: just say no

We all get them: those unsolicited emails that tell you there’s a shiny award with your name on it.

But of course, when you read the detail, there’s a cost involved. It’s just a money-making scheme, with no merit whatsoever. This is different, of course, from paying to sponsor a reputable award in your industry or local region.

In the cold light of day, it seems obvious that you should never get involved with any of these dubious-looking awards. It can be easy, though, to let yourself get suckered.

My advice is simple: just say no. In fact, just say nothing – delete the email without replying, and let the “award” go to someone else.
